Magnolia ‘Greenback’

A Fleming’s introduction to Australia, this Southern Magnolia is noted for the smooth, hairless backs on the mature foliage. A dense, uniform, upright growth habit make it an excellent specimen or screen for use in gardens, parks and other public open space. Selected for its foliage, texture and habit.

Evergreen with glossy, waxy and dark green above, pale green beneath a older growth, densely arranged on the branches. Maintains an excellent, glossy finish all year. Some older leaves can turn yellow to brown and shed in autumn and again in spring as new growth begins. Occasional, large, creamy white flowers with a slight lemon fragrance are produced during the summer months at the branch tips.

Will adapt to a variety of sites and shows good heat tolerance once established. Grows best in full sun with moist, acid, well-drained soil. Will tolerate partial shade. Can be heavily pruned for use in hedging or to maintain size.
