Pyrus communis (Sensation Pear )
Also known as Red Sensation Pear.
Deciduous fruiting tree, growing 2-8m depending on how the tree is trained and pruned. Enjoy spring blossom followed by large, sweet tasting fruit. When the fruits ripe, it is a bright red colour, with juicy cream-white flesh. Great for desserts, sauces, stewed, salads and savoury dishes. Cross pollinators: Williams Pear.
Choose an open sunny position in well-drained soil. After planting spread mulch above the roots to retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep away from trunk. Apply fertiliser to soil above the roots as soon as new growth begins in spring and water in well. Protect from strong winds. Consider netting to protect from birds. Correct pruning techniques are essential to the trees fruiting success.
