Plum ‘Satsuma’

Prunus salicina (Satsuma)

Full Sun Part Shade Decidous

$45

Also known as Japanese Blood Plum.

A popular, round, Japanese Blood Plum that has dark red skin and flesh, with firm fruit in mid summer. Excellent for all purposes such as bottling, jam, and eating fresh. Pollinators: Santa Rosa, Mariposa, Ruby Blood, Narrabeen.

Choose an open sunny position in well-drained soil. After planting spread mulch above the roots to retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep away from trunk. Apply fertiliser to soil above the roots as soon as new growth begins in late winter-early spring and water in well. Protect from strong winds. Consider netting to protect from birds. Correct pruning techniques are essential to the trees fruiting success. Prune after harvest, removing crowded and crossing branches to allow light to penetrate the centre of the tree.

  • Full sun to part shade position, sheltered from wind.
  • Grows approx. 5m x 4m.
  • Sweet dark red flesh and skin.
