The Hibiscus syriacus is a deciduous, multi-stemmed shrub characterized by its open, vase-like structure and gracefully arching branches. Its blooming season stretches from late spring to autumn, during which it showcases strikingly large, lavender, trumpet-shaped blooms that measure about 10 centimeters across. These flowers feature a dark red center with pronounced veins and are fringed by delicate mauve double layer petals resembling lace.

Blossoms abundantly, providing a lush backdrop for garden borders or serving as an attractive deciduous hedge. When planted in groups over a broad area, such as in parks or on estates, the collective display of color is quite breathtaking.

It’s an ideal choice for those wanting to instill a tropical ambiance in almost any garden setting, as it is among the easiest plant species to cultivate and multiply.

It performs best in rich, well-drained loam but is versatile enough to adapt to a range of moderately drained soil types. Benefits from an annual pruning. Trimming back around a third of the growth in the winter, which is a brief dormant period for the plant, invigorates it. To encourage lush growth, apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring and early summer.
